My Eyes
October 22. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to be in the operating room with Dr. Lei and his staff. They offered me the gift of seeing more clearly details of the world around me. I felt the presence of the Divine Physician guiding the hands of the medical team and blessing me with a successful surgery.
My son, Alexander, and I arrived at the Windsor Surgical Centre on October 20th and the surgery took place as scheduled. We were there for about 3 hours. The train ride the day before was very pleasant. The train was delayed a bit and my son was able to make it on time right after his class. I was having a hard time seeing the sidewalk as I tried to take the buss to the train station, but this proved beyond my ability at the time and so my son arranged transportation via Uber for me. So, I was Uber Dad for a few minutes.
I pray with my sons for the doctor, nurses, and staff that have assisted me since February of this year with my vision. I am still applying antibiotics and medications on my eyes. The antibiotic is needed for a week, and the medications for four weeks. I saw Dr. Lei on Wednesday, October 21 in his clinic, Milton Eye Surgeons, and he will see me again on November 13 for a follow up. He said that the surgery was a success. I learned to express my gratitude for his expertise while I was in my academic post in Hong Kong by the expression that sounds a bit like Do Dot Si Gao, which sort of means "I hope that I can learn something from you". It is an expression to praise a person for their wisdom and acknowledge the opportunity to be in the presence of this person. Dr. Lei seemed to have appreciated the compliment.
I am applying medications in my eyes every four hours for the next four weeks and my vision is becoming clearer, particularly in the mid to long range. It is still very difficult for me to see small things, but this will improve and I will be able to use reading glasses.I am very grateful for the support of my two sons, Alexander and Glenn, my community, my medical care team, our prayer group, our Knights of Columbus Council #14446, and you, friend, for keeping me in your prayers and supporting me. My life has changed. Thank you.
Blessings,
