Tired
September 1st. I have been tired. I had things to write and I had to wait until I could add space to my journal. I didn't realize that it was so limited and that there was a cost, but here I am. I had several consultations in the last few days and I have been feeling exhausted.
I suppose that the body is busy at the molecular level resisting change and the mind is busy, perhaps at a subconscious level orchestrating. The result is that I feel very sleepy and I eat very little these days.
I am feeling happy that I saw my good friend Shirley a few days ago for coffee with my older son. I felt supported and helpful to support her and her brother, who is back to Hong Kong but suffering from the stroke that occurred last year. To the day, I met Shirley a year since we last met. A year. I also saw her and her family on the weekend. The boys played chess and other board games and we reconnected. It is very nice to have someone to meet in person. Sometimes, I feel like I am in the pandemic, isolated at home with my boys.
I try to be active by doing things around and finding opportunities to go outside with my boys. We went to the park on the weekend and I realized that we hadn't been to the park since I fell and broke a rib at the start of the summer. It seems like a long time ago, but it also seems like it was yesterday.
My younger boy and I also played chess after a sport activity in the community centre and we also played a new game that we found at a thrift shop, a Minecraft card game. We often try games that we find and sometimes we keep them and sometimes we donate them back. Chess is the constant.
Today, I was trying to read with my younger boy in the afternoon and he said that I fell asleep and talked nonsense. I find it funny that he demonstrates what I did to make sure that I appreciate what he had to endure :) Later in the evening, the three of us were busy working on model cars. We often work on car models, or Lego projects. The thrift shop is also a good source of affordable projects.
I had a few calls from Dr. Lei's office regarding the surgery in October. I need to follow up on a few things. My vision is degrading since I started writing.
I realized that I have a difficult time recognizing friends at church and also seeing at night and reading. I was so happy that I was able to talk to Brother Tony in particular. I am glad that he approached me and told me his name because I couldn't see him. My younger son and I were at the church for one of a procession in one of his ministries. We prayed from our doctors, staff, nurses, and all my son's teachers, coaches, teammates, classmates, and our community.
As I wrap up the day, I look outside and feel so blessed to be part of the world today, in this night of few stars and warm air.
